European Hornets in Aston Clinton Park
Aston Clinton Parish Council
We have been made aware of a nest of European hornets (Vespa crabro) located in a tree trunk within the woods at the south-eastern end of Aston Clinton Park.
European hornets are a native species and generally not aggressive if left undisturbed. They are beneficial insects, helping to control other pests in the environment.
Advice for park users:
- Please do not disturb the nest or attempt to remove it.
- Keep children and pets away from the area.
- If you encounter hornets, remain calm and move away slowly – they will not chase unless provoked.
- The nest will naturally die off in late autumn and is not reused.
The Parish Council will continue to monitor the situation to ensure public safety. If the nest is considered to pose a risk due to its location, professional advice will be sought.
Thank you for your cooperation in helping us look after both our community and local wildlife.
